Enter Bahlam, a sunken fortress of the Old Gods, located deep in the South Atlantic Ocean. Following a shipwreck, maritime archaeologist and adventurer Nikolay Bernstein regains consciousness 36.000 feet under the sea. He's severely wounded and unwillingly connected to a supernatural Buddy-unit. Searching for answers about his displacement our main protagonist digs deep into the lost undercity, gradually realizing an ominous presence hollowing in its shadowed caverns.

On your journey home you will share your fate with a friendly tribe of mining creatures, the Wozan, who fear the Old Gods and strive to get back to the surface since their ancestors had been enslaved 5000 years ago. Some of them were able to flee and founded secret colonies deep inside the sunken ruins, others are still exploited by the hostile creatures that have overtaken the city since the Old Gods suddenly disappeared.


Experience real non-linear metroidvania gamplay and uncover five distinct areas, all with remarkable puzzles, environmental hazards, epic boss encounters and captured Wozan to uncage. Your Buddy unit will procedurally map the area and function as a handy quality of life tool that can be controlled at will to manipulate your surroundings using various abilities like hacking, scanning and telekinesis.

Explore Bahlam with a high freedom of movement like climbing, crawling and diving right from the start. As you progress your set of options will expand by discovering ancient weapon systems, suit upgrades and hacking protocols for your droid. All gear will be carefully balanced in terms of combat abilities and has to be used selectively to overcome specific hazards and puzzles.


Over the course of the game's (part-time) development since early 2013, we constantly integrated player feedback to preserve the iconic core mechanics from the past while adapting gameplay and presentation to today's demands.

All pixel art will scale crisp and free of distortion to your native screen resolution running at stable 60 FPS. A hybrid physics engine ensures realistic accelerations and object movements while maintaining the pixel perfect control of the old classics. We crafted believable and adaptive enemy and boss AIs that will kick your ass in a Souls-like manner!

Outbuddies supports various rebindable control setups like keyboard, mouse and multiple gamepads to ensure you´re able to play with your preferred device.

Public Demo build: You can dig about 20 minutes into the game and beat the first Miniboss.

The game starts with a tutorial section, so you won´t have to read any instructions in advance! Game difficulty can be adjusted in the start screen menu, standard setting is “casual”.

System requirements: For running the game in 60FPS you should at least have a dual core CPU 2,4 GHz plus. A dedicated graphics card is recommended but not essential. The game will auto adjust to 30 FPS, if your machine can´t handle it. Windows 7 or higher only.

Display Output: Outbuddies runs in a borderless window by default, so multitasking functions are enabled. You can choose “Real Fullscreen” in the options for a direct display output. This may give a smoother experience but bugs like black screen and freezes may occur. The game should always scale distortion-free to your native desktop resolution.

Important note for Youtubers: Outbuddies is made with Fusion 2.5. There are known problems with software recorders, especially if you play the game with a direct display output (Real Fullscreen). I recommend using a hardware recorder like the Elgato (if available) or running the game in Windowed Fullscreen mode (default setting).

Outbuddies supports most controllers and can also be played with a keyboard, but I highly recommend the Xbox 360 USB gamepad! Keys and buttons are fully mappable.

Enter local Co-Op: Call the in-game pause menu and choose the top symbol. You´ll then be asked to assign input devices for each character.

Build 1.18 online. New tilesets and improved tutorial section.

Demo updated. The original soundtrack by OGRE got implemented. Also, modifications in the platforming mechanics. Enjoy^^
